Zillow partners with Stripe to file 1099 tax forms that summarize your earnings or sales activities. We’ve put together some FAQs to help you learn more about 1099s, and how to use Stripe Express to review your tax information and download your tax forms.

What is a 1099 tax form?
A 1099-K form is the information return that is given to the IRS and qualifying customers and summarizes gross payment transactions for US account holders. The IRS requires Payment Settlement Entities, such as Zillow, to report the payment volume received by U.S. account holders. It’s provided to you and the IRS, as well as some US states, if you had $5,000 USD in total gross volume in the previous calendar year—and you’re based in the US or are a US taxpayer.
What is Stripe Express and how do I access it?
Stripe Express allows you to update your tax information, download your tax forms, and track your earnings. If you're a Zillow Rental Manager and If you had $5,000 USD in total gross volume in the previous calendar year through Zillow in the US, Stripe will send an email titled “Get your Zillow 2024 tax forms faster by enabling e-delivery” inviting you to create an account and log in to Stripe Express.
If you are unable to find that email, head to our Support site where you can request a new link to be sent to your email.
If you still are not able to locate your invite email, reach out to Zillow support for help updating your email address.
I no longer have access to the phone number I signed up with. How do I login to my Stripe Express account?
If you’ve lost or updated your phone number, you can select the I no longer have access to this phone number option to authenticate via email and change your phone number.

I earned enough to need a 1099 form in the previous calendar year. Why haven’t I received an email from Stripe?
If you earned enough to need a 1099 form in the previous calendar year, you should have received an email from Stripe by mid January. Emails will be sent out in phases to Landlords starting in November.
If you can’t find an email from Stripe, it’s possible that:
- The email may be in your spam/junk mail folder. Search your inbox for an email titled “Get your Zillow 2024 tax forms faster by enabling e-delivery”.
- Zillow does not have your most current email address on file. Check any other email addresses you may have used to sign up for Zillow, or reach out to Zillow to update your email.
- The email address associated with your Zillow account is incorrect, missing, or unable to receive mail.
- Zillow has chosen to postal deliver forms to you. If you have not received an email from Stripe or a 1099 in the mail, reach out to Zillow to get a copy of your tax forms.
If you earned enough to need a 1099 form in the previous calendar year and do not receive an email from Stripe by mid January, you will be mailed a paper copy of your 1099 tax form.
When will I receive my 1099 tax form?
If you’ve agreed to e-delivery you should receive your 1099 tax form by January 31. Allow up to 10 business days for mail delivery of a paper form.
Here are a few important dates to keep in mind:
- Starting in November: Stripe will email you instructions on how to set up a Stripe Express account. You’ll need to create an account and agree to paperless delivery (i.e., agree to receive your 1099 tax form electronically via Stripe Express). You will need an account to download your 1099 tax form.
- Before mid January: Confirm your tax information (e.g., name, address, and SSN or EIN) is correct via Stripe Express.
- By January 31:
- Your 1099 tax form will be available to download via Stripe Express if you agree to paperless delivery.
- Your 1099 tax form will be mailed to you, if you don’t receive an email from Stripe or don’t agree to paperless delivery. Allow up to 10 business days for mail delivery.
- Zillow will file your 1099 tax form with the IRS and relevant state tax authorities.
- April 15: IRS deadline to file individual tax returns. You’ll need your 1099 tax form to file your taxes.
I only see a field to enter my Social Security Number (SSN) in my 1099 tax form, how do I enter my Employer Identification Number (EIN)?
Zillow determines the legal entity type for your business when they create your Stripe Express account. If your account’s legal entity type is currently an individual, single member LLC, or sole proprietorship your personal tax details will be used on your 1099 tax form and you will only see the option to enter an SSN, not an EIN.
To enter your business tax details and use your EIN, your legal entity type will need to be changed to a company.
Contact Zillow's support team to update your legal entity so you can enter your business tax details and your EIN in your 1099 tax form.
If your account’s legal entity type is currently a company, you will be prompted to enter an EIN. To forego this requirement, your legal entity type will need to be changed to an individual, single member LLC, or sole proprietorship.

How do I update my tax information?
Open the email from Stripe and click on the “Get started” button, which will prompt you to create a Stripe Express account. After you create an account, you’ll be able to review your tax information (e.g., name, address, and SSN or EIN) and make any necessary changes via Stripe Express. Update your information no later than mid January.
If you don’t agree to paperless delivery by mid January, we’ll automatically mail your 1099 tax form to the address on file, so it’s critical that your information is current, correct, and complete.
You may find that your 1099 tax form reports your SSN and you want to use your EIN (or vice-versa). If that’s the case, you’ll want to reach out to Zillow to update your legal entity information.
If you’re operating as an individual, Sole Proprietorship, or Single Member LLC, the IRS will expect to see the individual owner’s Name and SSN (as opposed to Business Name and EIN) reported on your 1099 tax form.
I'm having issues answering the account claim security questions. What should I do?
Reach out to Zillow support to confirm the information that they have on file against the information you are providing.
Why is Stripe requesting my Social Security number (SSN), Employer Identification Number (EIN), or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)?
Your SSN, EIN, or ITIN is required to file your 1099 tax form with the IRS and relevant state tax authorities.

How can I download my 1099 tax form?
If you create a Stripe Express account and agree to paperless delivery, Stripe will email you to let you know when your 1099 tax form is available download via Stripe Express. If you don’t agree to paperless delivery, Stripe will mail you a paper copy of your 1099 tax form instead.
How do I get a corrected 1099 tax form?
If you feel you need corrections made to a 1099 tax form that has already been ‘Filed’, use the edit option in the Tax Forms page of Stripe Express. Information you edit will not appear in the 1099 tax form in the Stripe Express dashboard but it is shared with Zillow. You should reach out to Zillow after you’ve made the edits you want and they can assist you with a correction. Once Zillow ‘Files’ your correction, you will be notified via email and you will see a new 1099 tax form appear in the Stripe Express dashboard.
It can take up to 72 hours after the platform files the correction for you to be notified.
