What is a 1099 tax form?
A 1099-NEC form summarizes earnings as an independent contractor in the US. It’s provided to you and the IRS, as well as some US states, if you earn $600 or more in the previous calendar year. If you're an independent contractor or gig worker, you’ll need this form to file your taxes.
What is Stripe Express and how do I access it?
Stripe Express allows you to update your tax information, download your tax forms, and track your earnings. If you're a Shipt Shopper and earned $600 or more in the previous calendar year through Shipt in the US, Stripe will send an email (titled “Get your Shipt 2024 tax forms faster by enabling e-delivery”) inviting you to create an account and log in to Stripe Express.
If you are unable to find that email, see How do I get a new invite link to set up my Stripe Express account to access my tax forms? to request a new link.
If you still are not able to locate your invite email, reach out to Shipt's support team for help updating your email address.
I no longer have access to the phone number I signed up with. How do I log in to my Stripe Express account?
If you’ve lost or updated your phone number, you can select the “I no longer have access to this phone number” option to authenticate via email and change your phone number. See I lost my phone or changed my number – how do I login to my account? for more information.
I earned enough to need a 1099 form in the previous calendar year. Why haven’t I received an email from Stripe?
If you earned enough to need a 1099 form in the previous calendar year, you should have received an email from Stripe by mid-January. Emails will be sent out in phases to Shipt Shoppers starting in November.
If you can’t find an email from Stripe, it’s possible that:
- The email may be in your spam/junk mail folder. Search your inbox for an email titled “Get your Shipt 2024 tax forms faster by enabling e-delivery”.
- Shipt does not have your most current email address on file.Check any other email addresses you may have used to sign up for Shipt or reach out to Shipt to update your email.
- The email address associated with your Shipt account is incorrect, missing, or unable to receive mail.
- Shipt has chosen to postal deliver forms to you. If you have not received an email from Stripe or a 1099 in the mail, reach out to Shipt to get a copy of your tax forms.
If you earned enough to need a 1099 form in the previous calendar year and do not receive an email from Stripe by mid-January, you will be mailed a paper copy of your 1099 tax form.
When will I receive my 1099 tax form?
If you’ve agreed to e-delivery you should receive your 1099 tax form by January 31 (plus up to 10 business days for mail delivery of a paper form).
Here are a few important dates to keep in mind:
- Starting in November: Stripe will email you instructions on how to set up a Stripe Express account. You’ll need to create an account and agree to paperless delivery (i.e., agree to receive your 1099 tax form electronically via Stripe Express). You will need an account to download your 1099 tax form.
- Before January 21: Confirm your tax information (e.g., name, address, and SSN or EIN) is correct via Stripe Express.
-
By January 31:
- Your 1099 tax form will be available to download via Stripe Express if you agree to paperless delivery.
- Your 1099 tax form will be mailed to you, if you don’t receive an email from Stripe or don’t agree to paperless delivery. Allow up to 10 business days for mail delivery.
- Shipt will file your 1099 tax form with the IRS and relevant state tax authorities.

How do I update my tax information?
Open the email from Stripe and click the Get started button, which will prompt you to set up a Stripe Express account. After you've claimed your account, you’ll be able to review your tax information and make any necessary changes via Stripe Express
Update your information no later than January 21. Edits to tax information in Stripe Express will be unavailable from January 21 to February 3.
If you don’t agree to paperless delivery by mid-January, we’ll automatically mail your 1099 tax form to the address on file, so it’s critical that your information is current, correct, and complete.
You may find that your 1099 tax form reports your SSN and you want to use your EIN (or vice-versa). If that’s the case, you’ll want to reach out to Shipt to update your legal entity information.
If you’re operating as an individual, Sole Proprietorship, or Single Member LLC, the IRS will expect to see the individual owner’s Name and SSN (as opposed to Business Name and EIN) reported on your 1099 tax form.
